On a hectic August 2th 2007 Manchester City signed three players, one of them being the £8m capture of Brazilian midfielder Elano Blumer from Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk. Elano agreed a four-year deals at Eastlands and the Brazilian International teamed up with his new side before an away friendly with Charleroi in Belgium the following week. He is a highly-regarded and skilful midfielder who is happy in wide positions and able to strike the ball with either foot. He can play on either wing or in the hole behind a target man and is versatile enough to allow Eriksson to mix up his formation at will. Elano has been a regular in Brazil squads in recent years, battling with first choice playmakers Kaka or Ronaldinho for a place in the team. He featured in Brazils 2007 victorious Copa America campaign and is a well merited player having won the Brazilian League in 2002 and 2004 with Santos, the Ukrainian League in 2005 with Shaktar Donetsk, in addition to the Copa America in 2007.
