Quiz :

Question Acceptable answers:

Quiz 1: Who/what was Nijinsky?

[Russian ballet dancer], Championship racehorse, and the nickname to a famous City-midfielder by the name of Colin Bell.

[Legend has it that the famous Russian ballet dancer Nijinsky said on his death bed in 1950 that he would return as a free spirit. In the late 60s a racehorse was named after him].

Nijinsky the racehorse made history becoming the first ever to win the triple Crown, the King George and the Irish Derby. He registered 11th consecutive win, a record for a middle-distance British Racehorse, and was labelled "the best horse in the world". This inspired City-Coach Malcolm Allison to name his best running midfelder Colin Bell after the horse because of his great class and stamina.

[In the case of a tie-break the ballet dancer may be used to decide the winner....]

Quiz 2: What was the name of the player that collided with Bert Trautmann when the goalkeeper broke his neck in the 1956 FA Cup Final?

Peter Murphy, of Birmingham City

Quiz 3: Can you name a player that has played at Senior level for all four Manchester and Liverpool clubs?

Peter Beardsley

Quiz 4: What was so remarkable about the line-up when City won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1970?

It was the last time a European Cup was won by an all English team. Even the substitute was an Englishman.

Quiz 5: City were the first team to field 4 foreigners at the same time in a Premiership game. Can you name the game and the 4 City-players involved?

Dec 26th 1995: Blackburn Rovers (Away) 0-2. The players were: Eike Immel, Ronnie Ekelund, Gio Kinkladze, and Uwe Rosler.

[This question was a little tricky because it says "at the same time". City actually fielded all four during the game against Chelsea three days before, but then Ekelund came on as a sub, replacing Rosler. And so they did not play "at the same time" in that game, even though that game marked the end of the "3 foreigners rule".]

Quiz 6: Can you name an England international game where 4 [at the time] Manchester City players were on the field [playing] at the same time?

In games between England and Scotland during the 70s there have been 4 City-players involved several times - because some of them played for Scotland. I.e: Donachie & Hartford for Scotland and Watson & Tueart for England in 1977. Donachie & Hartford for Scotland and Watson & Barnes for England in 1978. Also in the game between Wales and England in 1972, Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee & Rodney Marsh played for England while Wyn Davies turned out for Wales.

The oldest reference is probably the game between England and Northern Ireland in 1935. John Bray, Eric Brook & Fred Tilson played for England against Keiller McCullough for Northern Ireland in a game where Tilson and Brook scored three goals between them. Peter Doherty also played for Northern Ireland, but it was still one year before he joined City from Blackpool.
