Manchester City Football Club plc [ 3.2 ] What are the club's nicknames? The Blues or (less commonly) The Citizens. [ 3.3 ] When was the club formed? The club started out as St. Marks of West Gorton in 1880 and changed name slightly the following year to West Gorton (St. Marks); in 1884 they became simply Gorton and then in 1887, Ardwick. A financial crisis in 1894 led to the creation of Manchester City and that name has remained ever since. [ 3.4 ] Who is City's chairman? Francis Lee resigned as chairman on Wednesday 18th March and was replaced by David Bernstein. The largest single shareholder is Stephen Boler. [ 3.5 ] Who is City's chief executive? Mike Turner, formerly commercial director at Liverpool but a lifelong City fan. [ 3.6 ] Who are City's other directors? Andrew Thomas (the Greenalls representative), Ashley Lewis (proxy for Stephen Boler and the widow of Peter Swales), Dennis Tueart (representative for David Makin) and John Wardle. [ 3.7 ] Who is City's team manager? Joe Royle replaced Frank Clark on Wednesday 18th February 1998. [ 3.15] What does the club's crest look like? The new crest looks rather like a military emblem of some sort. At the top are three stars, underneath is a golden eagle and imposed on that is the new club crest. The ship is still there, underneath that is MCFC and then three diagonal strikes (like the badge of the early 70's?). At the bottom of the whole thing is a bit of latin, Superbia In Proelio which means Pride In Battle. [ 3.16] What do City's kits look like?

Maine Road's capacity is currently around 33,000, around 1,000 of which is housed in an uncovered temporary stand in "Windy Corner" (between the North Stand and the Kippax) which is used by either home or away fans depending on demand. The rest of the ground's capacity is split as follows: Main Stand 8,782 North Stand 7,525 Kippax Stand 10,837 Platt Lane Stand 5,003 It is highly likely that City will move into the Millennium Stadium which is being built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games which will be held in Manchester, Maine Road then being leased to another club (possibly a new Rugby League club) or even possibly sold for a supermarket or other development. [ 3.20] Will I need a membership card to buy a ticket? For certain matches, only City membership card holders can purchase tickets. To apply for membership, send a passport-sized photograph of yourself, a cheque/P.O. for £5.00 and a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Membership Scheme Application, The Secretary, Manchester City F.C. plc, Maine Road, Moss Side, Manchester M14 7WN. Existing members can renew their membership for £3.00 if they enclose their old membership card with their application. Games are only usually made members-only if the visiting club sells their entire allocation of tickets. [ 3.21] How much do tickets cost? Ticket prices vary depending on the competition, the opposition and where in the stadium you want to be. Tickets for home League games are available at least 4 weeks before the game, the first week being postal applications only. It's best to book as early as possible in order to have the best choice of seats and to avoid the need to join the membership scheme should the visiting team sell all of their tickets. The Manchester City mailing-list/newsletter, Man City Info Via The Alps is run by Ashley Birch, formerly a resident in Switzerland but now living in Chapel en le Frith, Cheshire. To split the workload, however, Steve Bolton (sbolton@buxtonrd.u-net.com) handles all subscriptions.
